"Our Missing Hearts" is an amazing book that has left me struggling to put my words together. It's the kind of story that leaves a lasting imprint. I finished reading this on December 7th, but the tale of Bird and his journey in this hauntgly real speculative fiction world has lingered in my thoughts ever since. This novel is sure to evoke strong reactions you'll either love this like I did or find yourself polarized by its narrative. Regardless, its a book that will make you think, reflect, and engage in discussions about the story. *highly encourage you to read through the comments on GoodReads! I spent time reading 1 star reviews and it was very helpful in understanding the polarizing effect of this book.
Set in a speculative fiction/dystopian world that feels eerily plausible, the author takes real-life events and expands upon them, envisioning a worst-case scenario that is both chilling and thought-provoking. At the heart of the narrative is Bird, a character who embarks on a relentless quest to find his mother in a society that bears the unsettling echoes of dystopia.
The writing is a bit slow, espically as the world building is written. If slowish books are not you style, I don't recommend this. I personally found the pacing spot on for the story.
